PROJECT ZERO II: Crimson Butterfly
This intriguing game starts off as an hallucinogenic dark forest fairytale with a foreboding, scary, eerie and creepy atmosphere. (Unfortunately I never got to check out the first Project Zero). Two girls (twins), Mayu & Mio play in the forest, one wanders into the woods following a crimson butterfly, the other trailing behind. They discover a village lost to the world, with mystical shrines and altars along the way. People get trapped in this ghostly village, those who lose their way getting led there by twin deity statues. The Guardian deities are carved in stone. As you uncover this strange turn of events items need to be collection & utilization, info, herbal medicine and sacred water also necessary discoveries. What happened in this place was on one ceremonial night, which led to a massacre - with only one survivor. The village remains haunted, the one survivor being channeled through Mayu - getting flashes of the past horror. You also find notebook pages of Miyako Sudo who is trapped in the village. You unravel the mystery with a moody, gloomy look and creepy soundtrack to further pull you into its realm. You'll find dark corridors and apparitions aplenty. I found a glitch where my disc froze up, but hopefully it's an isolated incident and not the entire run of games in the batch.
