HEROES OF THE PACIFIC
Set in World War II around the Pearl Harbour bombing, this flight simulation fighting game takes us back to the nuts and bolts of air battle as opposed to the many futuristic and space aged flying battle games out there. You can take on missions as a Rookie, Pilot, Veteran or Ace (the difficulty scale tipping heavily), and you work your way through Fighters, Dive Bombers, Torpedo Bomber, and Bombers. A wide range of missions dumps you straight into the action (including offensive and defensive orders). After flight training you can go for Instant Action, Campaign, Historical, Missions and Pearl Harbour to make the most of this invigourating game. Maps and enemy indicators help you along the way, as well as radio contact keeping you informed. No lasers, no hyperspace or turbo boosts, just good old props, machine guns and bombs as you twist and turn in the sky. The developers employed a very cool retro wartime poster and artwork look for the inbetweeners.
PS. I'm not sure how many Japanese fans the game will have...
