SINGSTAR ROCKS
Many of us have been waiting for
Singstar to swing a more rock-oriented title our way. While the 30 tunes make no bad ride, it doesn't exactly rock as hard as some of us would have hoped. There are some very cool and classic rock numbers, but fall mostly on the more accessible, commercial side of things. Timeless classics include Deep Purple's Smoke On The Water, Thin Lizzy's The Boys Are Back In Town, Rolling Stones' Paint It Black, Queen's Don't Stop Me Now (not the best choice), plus the Scorpions and Nirvana. The ladies were not forgotten like (the not exactly rocking) Gwen Stefani, KT Tunstall and The Cardigans, with Courtney Love's Hole the only exception. Punkrocking styles come from Offspring contrasted by the more silly tones of Bowling For Soup. Blur's best track Song 2, and Queens Of The Stone Age's Go With The Flow spice things up. New rock grooves come from The Killers, The Bravery, The Hives, Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian and Bloc Party. Piano driven hit makers Coldplay and Keane are also present. Semi-retro rockers Jet and Kings Of Leon are pretty damn cool. Stereophonics, Razorlight, Snow Patrol, The Undertones, Maxïmo Park, and Hard-Fi round out the rest. Medley modes include the obvious Random, as well as Classic Rock-, Mosh Pit-, and Indie Medleys. This time round there's a 12 restriction for some of the more naughty words and suggestive subjects. Again it has EyeToy adaptability for those paparazzi shots. If it's not hard rocking enough for you, let's hope a Singstar Metal title is on the cards (seeing as the next will more than likely be Hip Hop or R&B).
