TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES - Mutant Melee
The Turtle flood just keeps on coming with yet another one for fans of this resurrected franchise. But this time round it has a bit more scope and snap to it. In the Melee Match segment you can select from a choice of 26 good or evil characters, and battle it out with up to four other players in 23 locations. Obviously many locations and characters need to be unlocked, but if you're into it, that shouldn't take too long. Breaking boxes earns you power-ups and allow weapons pick-ups from swords to bazookas. The Adventure Story section consists of a level progression, taking you from the dojo and the Turtle lair, through sewers, across rooftops, and alleyways into the city. You start out by selecting your favourite Turtle, sparring with the others for practice as well as a bout with your master Splinter. From there you take on Shredder's foot soldiers, mousers and other hoods like Hun. Tokens are collected as you finish levels. These can be used to unlock extra material like artwork, biographies, history, comic books, toys, outtakes and other media like animated vignettes. Other characters making appearances include Casey Jones, April O'Neal, Baxter Stockman and Purple Dragons. Much better than the previous Turtle titles, but once you've finished you won't necessarily want to return for more - seeing as they'll probably have another one out soon.
