TRUE CRIME New York City
The
True Crime series may well follow the template of games like Grand Theft Auto, but it has become a franchise with its own flavour (being more cop- than criminal orientated). In this NYC edition a gangster (Marcus) gets a second chance from a sympathetic cop and ends up joining the force, years later becoming a detective in the organized crime unit. Training takes you through all of the necessary moves and functions from shooting and driving to handling suspects – you can chase them down, beat them up, arrest and handcuff them, or kill them – each action having consequences though. You can also select whether your action will be that of a good cop or bad cop when you’re dealing with suspects and situations (like pawning evidence as opposed to booking it in at the station!) – all affecting the outcome. The game again opts for a cinematic style as our reformed criminal is unleashed onto a violent city. As usual, in order to get your missions accomplished, you can do so by jumping into any vehicle. The soundtrack covers a nice variety as opposed to forcing gamers to go with whatever their fed: Metal & Punk (Ramones, Unsane, Murphy’s Law, Bad Brains, Misfits, Danzig, Agnostic Front, Sick Of It All, Madball, Iggy Pop, Interpol, Dope, Biohazard, My Chemical Romance) / Club & Dance (Adam Wiggins, Gruuvonik) / Rock (Blue Oyster Cult) / Hip-Hop (Big Daddy Kane, Public Enemy, Mos Def, Nas, Jay-Z, Redman, De La Soul, Grandmaster Flash, Wu Tang Clan, Sugarhill Gang, Run DMC) / Alternative (Sonic Youth, Bravery, Bobby Womack). Quite a compilation. The city map covers the entire New York City: Wall Street, Chinatown, Tribeca, Little Italy, Lower East Side, Soho, Greenwich Village, Mid Town, Central Park, Upper West Side, Harlem, Washington Highway – a vast area to explore as the story progresses (with some twists & turns). So, don’t spoil the long term entertainment you can get from this by running for the cheat codes even before you get started. The violence and language is graphic and not for younger players.
