DREAMGIRLS

With Eddie Murphy, Beyoncé Knowles, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson, Danny Glover

Directed by Bill Condon

This highly acclaimed musical tells the tale of a young starry eyed black trio and their dreams of fame. As is the case with these kinds of entertainment business movies (be it based on real characters or not), the usual themes flow through, from betrayal and the loss of friendship and love, to drugs, death and redemption.
After making her debut on the highly popular American Idol star search TV show, Jennifer Hudson not only starred here in her first major motion picture, but also won an Oscar for best supporting actress. Eddie Murphy is great as the controversial James Brown-styled singer and unfortunately didn’t nab an Academy Award for his efforts.
Dreamgirls is an entertaining film, but can get a bit tedious and drawn out - but if you can’t get enough, extra features include extended scenes and a music video.
