ANNIE
LENNOX
- Bare
Where
far
too
many
youngsters
nowadays
claim
the
title
of diva
unto
themselves
(or
get
it tagged
onto
them),
Annie
Lennox
get
to carry
the
cognomen
without
guilt.
With
the
Eurythmics
heydays
long
behind
her
(but
by no
means
forgotten),
Lennox
is firmly
settled
into
her
role
as solo
artist.
The
maturity
and
serious
tone
of this
album
with
its
melodic
melancholy
seems
to be
running
a theme
of negative
emotions,
but
it does
so by
looking
at beauty,
love,
life
and
its
subsequent
(and
often
inevitable)
gain
& loss.
The
introspection
finds
its
way
outward
via
her
highly
competent
expression,
making
a sad
subject
a thing
of beauty.
Behind
the
feelings
of loneliness,
isolation,
desire,
the
end
of a
relationship
or life's
general
obstacles,
Lennox
project
its
essence
with
a sense
of hope.
And
like
Blues
music,
most
expressive
creativity
come
from
a sense
of pain,
a darker
place
some
try
to avoid.
But
when
you're
an artist
you're
compelled
to let
it all
out
- something
Annie
does
with
pride
and
conviction.
