BLINK-182

It often seems that a band has reached a certain zone of maturity when they decide to dub their album a self-titled one. To an extent it seems like the case with the
Blink trio. Don't get me wrong, they're still as obnoxious and carefree as ever, there just seems to be a more grown up tone present in their writing and lyrics. This time round they also seemed to experiment more with vintage instruments and recording techniques to make this more of an exploration than just a bang-it-out session. The track Down with its Fallen Interlude make for their most accomplished bit of songwriting and performance thus far. The inclusion of piano and other subtle electronics is a plus. Tom's whining vocals get Mark's lower more rich voice as a counter weight. Their admiration of The Cure hit a high with Robert Smith delivering guest vocals on All Of This. For all of their gained subtlety, they still know how to let it rip, as is evident on a track like Go. Each song also receives concise notes on various levels of each track's process, mood or intention. A bonus live track of Anthem Part Two rounds it off, but an added enhanced feature allows you to watch four video clips with footage from their show for the troops in the Middle East, a live festival, recording sessions and general hang-out bits.
