DAVE GAHAN - Paper Monsters

If
Dave Gahan had to make a hundred solo albums, join another band or do a shuffle on the street corner for change, he would still be recognised as the voice of Depeche Mode. As a part of one of the best (and best-known) English cross-decade electronic pop groups, Gahan needed some freedom it would seem. Dave relates to the more sleazy and raunchy side of his experiences with DM (which sometimes led to some moments of fear and danger), its dirty blues and twangy slow groove sounds filtered into his solo endeavour. Surviving his excesses and strain of the lifestyle, Gahan has a lot he still needs to express, this time directly and personally, as opposed to being Martin Gore's megaphone.
