DISTURBED
- The Sickness
Slowly the whole Nu-Metal thang is starting to branch out (while
many bands still go the imitation route). Disturbed
are one of those who seem to have found their own identity early on. The
guitar riffs are chunky and catchy while a lot of the Disturbed
character lies in the distinct groove riding rapid-fire vocal delivery,
one of its trademark powercries sounding "like a dog choking on a chicken
bone" (as someone told me when they heard it). It's not that bad, really!
The Sickness runs a gamut of emotional intensity and contains a
bunch of killer tunes, like the title track as well as the likes of Stupify
(also heard on the Little
Nicky movie soundtrack).
This is a powerful CD with songs that can easily stick in your head, churning
around to your rapture or dismay. The electronics aid the songs as a part
of the whole, in stead of sounding like they were tacked on extras to
play with the times. A couple of extra live tracks are thrown in for those
who are into the proof of capabilities both in the studio and on stage.
One of the better new heavy bands to caome along of late.
