DISTURBED
- Believe
Part of the mission for Disturbed
on this album was to bring back the glory of real Metal, more so from
a lyrical perspective. In a way they may well succeed, even though their
sound is thoroughly wedged into the modern Metal sound. But, with such
a strong vocal presence from David Draiman and almost hypnotic riffs &
rhythms you cannot help but to churn the tunes round & round in your head
after as little as one listen. The percussive pace of all the instruments
in unison however still retains the modern groove without lurching into
moments of unfettered speed. After a near 2-year tour with their great
debut (The Sickness) the band crafted a follow-up that tried not
to replicate its predecessor. For instance that primal exclaimed vocal
expulsion from Draiman (even ripped off by Goldfinger
in a Metal parody tune) is not as prominent. The mere fact that they know
their Metal history (and their place in it) as well as the loyalty of
the fans is a feather in the cap, on top of the fact that they didn't
just churn out another bit of same-old. Believe addresses several
issues confronting us in this day & age and does so with enormous impact
and intent. The disc also contains an enhanced PC segment with a near
apocalyptic video for the title track with a little explanation from Draiman
plus a gallery, weblinks and on-line newsletter sign-up.
