WINCKLER - Once In A Lifetime
I guess it's safe to give a talent contest winner a cover version to test
the waters before diving into the big time world of new songs for a full
album (unlike the other talent show with a 5-piece group who recorded
an album of new songs). While the debate still rages on whether Heinz
is the ultimate SA Idol talent, his version of the boyband-pop ditty Once
In A Lifetime is quite acceptable, as is his take on the more passionate
Latin flavoured Soledad. This said, whether a debut album will
deliver more of the same or surprise the skeptics will remain to be seen.
But, even though the cover design looks a touch better than the UK versions
(yes, I can't believe the terrible black & white photo quality of those
releases either!), it still doesn't jump out and shout IDOL at me - not
at all…
