ABSOLUTE HIGH
ENERGY
At first glance the horrendously garish cover design of this double disc
repelled me somewhat. But then my memory jolted and twitched, remembering
back in the 80s when the High
Energy vinyl releases
were all the rage, giving punters the best club tunes mixed in a non-stop
dance extravaganza. Like the Eurobeat
compilations, High
Energy contained songs
of instantly recognizable quality, albeit names you never of, or would
ever again. At that time my musical taste was far removed from the cheezy
Euro disco tunes, but being an 80s child I can appreciate its historic
relevance and memories associated with the mood of the time. Of the better
known names on this 150 minute collection there are the likes of Bronski
Beat, Modern Talking, Rick Astley, Hazel Dean, Divine, Mel & Kim, Silver
Pozzoli and Freeez
(remember that smasher I.O.U.?). Then there are the classic cheeze
tracks like Boom Boom (Let's Go Back To My Room), Male Stripper,
Slice Me Nice, Living On Video, Cha Cha Cha, Electrica Salas, Dolce Vita,
Guilty and more, all by groups and artists you wouldn't recognize.
Whether you heard them in the Prince Of Wales, Trammps or your
school-, scout-, or town hall disco, you'll know them well. So, collectors
of 80s compilations, look past the (deliberately crappy cover) and don't
let this one slip by - unless of course you still have all those old vinyls
filed next to your Pop
Shops and soundtracks
of Grease,
Saturday Night Fever,
Footloose
and Top Gun….
