JACK
JOHNSON - On And On
Jack Johnson's guitar driven vocal moods with reggae/SKA touches
flows from the speakers with a sanguine laid back air. It seems as though
this would be the result when members of bands like Sublime and
Red Hot Chili Peppers survive and savour their triumph by chilling
out - looking at it from that angle gives it an entirely different perspective
than if picturing Johnson as a Julliard student who hasn't experienced
real life. On And On leaves the listener with a contented sense
of resigned bliss, but life's volatility is not ignored. Johnson's
poetic life reflections are universal observations, experiences and those
little truths we get so used to but need to be reminded of at times -
and if it's by such groovy, tranquil means how can you resist seizing
life with both hands? The album was recorded in Hawaii and the beach/palm/chill
mood can definitely be felt. Jack Johnson is assisted by Adam
Topol on drums and Merlo Podlewski on bass.
