When one looks back at pioneering rock acts of the 60s & 70s, you assume
that they'd slaved away together for years and stuck together as long.
This band got together in 68 in the wake of the British blues rock explosion,
giving it their own riff oriented angle, resulting in recording a number
of true rock classics. All Right Now is their definitive anthem,
without which they wouldn't be as easily placed. In the early 70s they'd
already split up and regrouped again, drug problems and other regular
rock obstacles made their appearance but with their final breakup as the
original unit it ultimately led to some of the members moving on to form
the influential Bad
Company. This selection
of their classic rock recordings also include Fire And Water, their
Blues cover version of The Hunter, Wishing Well, Heartbreaker, Heavy
Load, Mr Big and a live version of Get Where I Belong. Another
band that will put a glint in Chris Prior's eye, Free
made a substantial impact over a relatively short, but decade crossing
period when music really exploded, their rediscovering in later years
proving how lasting good music is.
