SPIDERMAN - Motion Picture Soundtrack
As to be expected, very few of the songs can be recalled from the movie.
A great opening track belongs to that of the original fun & cheesy TV
show theme song! From there it takes the listener into a predominantly
modern rock realm and all of its incarnations. The first credit roll song
belongs to Chad Kroeger (with Josey Scott), doing that passionate
new rock crooning thang (so, Nickelback fans take note), while
obnoxious nu-punkers Sum 41 jump in (with special guest: Slayer's
Kerry King on guitar solo!). There's Alien Ant Farm, Injected, The
Hives, The Strokes, Greenwheel, Theory Of A Dead Man, Default and even
ex-Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell. Danny Elfman's
original score gets 2 cuts. Macy Gray's My Nutmeg Phantasy
receives a Tom Morello remix while Bleu (no, not Blue)
add a semi-Chris Isaak feeling to their rock sound. And while I
didn't expect it, Aerosmith close it all up with their version of the
Spider-Man theme ditty, reminding me how often these old codgers
get used for movie tracks. Good thing the perverted Tenacious D
live version of the Spider-Man song is not included here as it
will freak out many a kid and parent (while amusing the rest of us). The
CD sleeve gets a tongue in cheek comic strip design, not necessarily enhancing
the music, as its producers often know, the film & soundtrack seldom having
much relation. The album has 8 executive producers and, yes, the songs
are "From" and "Inspired By"…
