THE MARS VOLTA - Frances The Mute

This is easily one of the best hard rock albums I've heard this year. Its epic sweep, musical versatility and amazing execution and production are only a few of the elements contributing to one hell of a listening experience. Injecting modern rock with a retro progressive slant and even Cuban influences, these guys have talent running out of their ears as they build an audio landscape which is totally awesome, from the instrumentation to the vocals and lyrics, this is no ordinary record. There is very little to say besides the fact that this is an instant classic that defies pop and explores musical boundaries to the utmost degree, yet should be heard by everyone to illustrate exactly how good music can be. If this work of genius goes over your head, well, there's always the next generic compilation album to dissolve your grey matter…
