THE
MARS
VOLTA
- Octahedron
To simplify
The
Mars
Volta
as mere
prog-rock
indulgence
is selling
a brilliant
rock
force
far
too
short.
Some
will
find
it a
schizo
experience,
similar
to the
cover
art,
but
this
layered
collection
of songs
from
the
band's
fifth
studio
album
holds
far
more
treasures
than
someone
who
merely
skips
through
the
eight
songs
would
come
to expect.
Anyone
familiar
with
them
however,
would
take
this
for
granted,
and
all
the
better
for
it.
This
is what
music
should
be -
a textured
experience
of audio
shades
and
adventures.
The
listener's
ride
involves
everything
from
technical,
emotional
and
trippy
moods,
to simplified
and
basic,
yet
moving
contrasts.
Pop
panderers
need
to take
a tip
here
on what
real
music
can
be.
