METAL FOR THE MASSES – Various

With EMI releasing Century Media bands in South Africa, this double disc collection offers a great selection of older greats contrasted with the new generation of Metal. The more distinguished legends include
Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Manowar, Whitesnake, Scorpions, Saxon, Hawkwind (before Lemmy departed to form Motörhead), Megadeth, and Queensrÿche.
Female fronted metallers are not as abundant, but they make an impact in the shape of
Otep, Arch Enemy, and the less intense Lacuna Coil. The Metal range on offer covers classic and melodic crunchers to technical Death Metal and intense audio explorations that defy description, from (the awesome) Strapping Young Lad, Sentenced, Dream Evil, The Haunted, and Shadows Fall, to God Forbid, Mercenary, Nocturnal Rites, Machine Men, and Satyricon. You also get Hell Is For Heroes, Velcra, D-A-D, and Thousand Foot Crutch. Some bands started honing their craft many years ago, like Dark Tranquility, Iced Earth, and Nevermore, and still kick majestically. An explosive package, except for its low-light of the cheesy battle-metal sound of Turisas.
