NOW 43 – Various

Almost 2-dozen mid-year hits & commercial faves get slapped on the platter with the “use of previously existing material” leading the pack – like
Rihanna’s S.O.S (using the well-worn Soft Cell Tainted Love sample - at least Marilyn Manson did a good cover of it), Black Eyed Peas’s Pump It, in fact Dick Dale & His Del-Tones tune Miserilou (used to potent effect in Pulp Fiction), here slowed down a touch with very little added to it but a lame imitation of the screams on the original – disgraceful. Then there’s the obvious inclusions: a Simpson sister, Robbie Williams, Kelly Clarkson, Hilary Duff, and the Backstreet Boys. Pussycat Dolls (yawn), Nelly Furtado (whatever), T-Pain (who?), Ne-Yo (generic). More noteworthy tunes come from local lads The Parlotones, Pink ripping into the Stupid Girls, Corinne Bailey Rae and the, well frankly predictable, yet good Coldplay. And for those who who want more pop in various other guises, try Lee Ryan, Jesse McCartney, Simon Webbe, Fall Out Boy, Damien Marley, and Chris Brown on for size.
