NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL MUSIC 40 - Various

The new installment of the Now series contains 21 tracks. There's
Gwen Stefani's Fiddler On The Roof rip-off, Akon's monotonous lamentation, Backstreet Boys' unconvincing passionate plea, Black Eyed Peas' nasal pun and Coldplay rocking safely. Bodyrockers get cheesy, Mariah Carrey doesn't want to age, youngster Mario uses all the cliché tactics to get in your pants and matured Natalie Imbruglia comes across as one of the few honest tracks on this compilation. Will Smith goes through the prerequisite motions to have you part with your cash while Blue and Lil' Kim rip the classic Get Down On It. Avril Lavigne is Falling to Pieces while Gorillaz offers an ambivalent Feel Good Inc. Maroon 5 Must Get Out - they said it. Lebo struts her stuff and Usher is Caught Up. Kylie offers nothing new. West Life is still going and Jay Sean wants to impress badly. Freshlyground taps into the catchy lyric-free chourus technique while Nelly and Tim McGraw try to bring R&B and Country together. All in all a varied slice of the current state of radio music.
