CRISIS ZONE
With rather lengthy pauses between G-Con toting action titles, this Crisis Zone blaster follows relatively short on the heels of the hair trigger 3rd PS2 installment. A terrorist group (the URDA) led by Derrick Lynch has laid siege upon a UK location, Garland Square, consisting of an office block, a park, hotel and shopping complex. You're Claude McGarren whose SWAT team has to stop these blood thirsty, trigger-happy terror-mongers by any means necessary - those means via the barrel of a gun. This time round you get to blow away every object in sight (in addition to the bad-guys, naturally). Besides the intensive story mode (taking you through all of Garland Square's areas with a range of tough bosses like the armoured bastards Tiger and Edge, as well as tanks, helicopters and a relentless army of opponents), you can also unlock a range of Crisis Missions. Here you get to take each of a range of weapons and fulfill the criteria for more unlocking. You go for hit combos, advance up ten flights in an office building with a time limit, blow away as many objects as possible, get the villains without hitting any other objects or team mates etc. A nice, varied addition for an extended shelf-life. Besides the added detail, you also get a hit warning when an opponent has you in their sights (so duck behind that shield!). Uncomplicated, loud action.
