OMEGA BOOST

Yes, folks, another
Robotech-style Manga monster-robot-fighting-machine game. You find yourself in the future (duh!), where an intelligent virus dug its claws into the World-Wide Computer Network (something many of us who rely on PCs for daily use and existence can relate to with the last batch of bastard viruses of the electronic kind). This virus takes on the form of an anti-human revolutionary entity known as Alpha Core and conquered most of the network (a little more threatening than losing some files!). It's in control of the Timeshaft (which enables time travel) and warped back in time in order to infect every single computer since the inception of the very first microchip. Wrapping itself in a time loop, it hopes to secure its existence. That's until Omega Boost got developed. Its objective is to combat Alpha Core and its legions, enter the time shaft and put an end to its reign. One aspect that would make avid gamers' ears prick up and twitch is the fact that Omega Boost was developed by (still supreme) Gran Turismo creators Polyphony Digital Inc. The complete 3-D environments allow the enemy to attack you from any and every direction. A basic 3-D arrow direction mechanism indicates where the suckers are coming from. Sometimes the hit/miss ratio is a bit too easy at times. As long as your sights cross the target, your shot will follow and destroy. This does however diminish the frustration level if it's too hard to hit them. Omega Boost plunges you into 9 swift, exciting levels that become much easier once you've learnt the ropes in the training section. A Gran Turismo function carried over here is the replay mode where you can watch your game from start to finish in great camera angles, even save it to show your friends how you kicked their ass. The traditional end level bosses make their appearance and take a lot of firepower to be brought down. There are even mid-level bosses. The opening sequence features cool live action mixed with graphics. As far as space shoot-em ups go, this will be adequate until the next great one comes along.
