TETRIS Party Deluxe
There aren't too many people on the planet unaware of this legendary game. The genius is in its simplicity and the way your brain latches into it. For the 5 folks out there still not too sure what Tetris is, it's the game where various block shapes drop down, and you need to arrange them to fill up lines so they can be eliminated. If it sounds dumb, wait until you give it a go, you won't be able to stop!
The Wii version takes on this classic and adds a whole bunch of new angles. There is a beginner training wheel version with huge blocks, and several single- & multi-player options. The game modes include the straight-forward Marathon and Computer Battle. Field Climber changes things up a bit - there's a little man at the bottom of the drop zone, and you need to arrange your blocks in such a way that he can climb up these stacks to reach the top. Another different one is Shadow Mode, where you need to arrange your blocks to fill up a specific shape in the background - sounds easier than it is. With Stage Racer you have to guide a Tetris block flying through an obstacle course. Sprint has you racing to clear 40 lines in the quickest time. Master Mode is quite intense, as the blocks appear right at the bottom without giving you any time to calculate where to place them. Bombliss Mode add explosive spots on the blocks which blows out lines instead of them disappearing when lined up the traditional way. Multiplayer Modes utilize all of the above, but you also get various Co-op Modes. A fun addition is the incorporation of the Wii balance board where you use your body as the controls.
When you feel invincible, you can then activate your Wi-Fi and go global, smoking Tetris players from Sydney to Helsinki.
Tetris is an evergreen classic; perfect to give your brain some calibration and escape anything you don't feel like dealing with. It's quite addictive and will have you returning again and again.
