THE BROTHERS BLOOM

With Adrien Brody, Rachel Weisz, Mark Ruffalo, Robbie Coltrane, Maximilian Schell, Rinko Kikuchi, Ricky Jay, Zachary Gordon

Written & Directed by Rian Johnson

When a comedy tries too hard to be quirky, it becomes far too evident to the audience and in effect feels pretentious. That is the case with The Brothers Bloom. The brothers in question started their double-team grifter career as young kids, scamming anyone and everyone. After many years of pulling their meticulously planned jobs across the planet, a new target emerges - a young heiress with very little concept of monetary value. They pull her into a scam together with their silent Eastern side-kick, but this time round one of the brothers breaks the rule of falling for the girl... This leads to conflict and deadly danger and their plans start to fall apart (on top of various convoluted double crossing, lies and half-truths).
Brody and Ruffalo are wonderful, unique actors, but this was one movie they may have reconsidered.
Too late now!
