This
South
African
made
semi-road
movie
has
a troupe
of comedians
heading
to the
Oppi
Koppi
rock
festival
to perform
stand-up
–
one
has
a domineering
girlfriend,
the
other
constantly
cheats
on his,
while
the
other
one
wants
to be
a comedian
but
never
gets
laughs.
Shot
in a
documentary
style
with
a whole
lot
of jabber
and
talking
about
random
shit,
it doesn’t
quite
reach
the
heights
of intent
aimed
at the
Larry
David
Curb
Your
Enthusiasm
style,
but
it’s
a noble
effort.
With
the
multi-cultural
post-Apartheid
South
Africa
as its
backdrop
and
a variety
of relationships
with
their
ups
and
downs
stirring
things
up,
it is
an interesting
reflection
on the
current
state
of young
adults
in this
diverse
place.
The
humour
is not
side-splitting
and
often
very
colloquial
which
foreigners
may
not
understand
as well
the
locals.
A more
substantial
white
male
character
could’ve
added
depth
as opposed
to the
trippy
moron
tagging
along
with
the
ensemble
- this
segment
of the
population
has
undergone
an interesting
identity
crisis
since
democracy,
where
they
used
to be
the
domineering
race
and
gender,
is now
completely
displaced.
Shot
on video,
the
choice
to grade
it black
&
white
was
possibly
to give
it more
of a
documentary
feel,
but
serves
very
little
purpose
other
than
that.
The
title
of the
film
refers
to the
South
African
take-away
consisting
of half
a white
bread
loaf,
hollowed
out
and
filled
with
curry
–
hinting
at the
mix-matched
population
making
up this
nation.
DVD
extras
include
several
behind
the
scenes
looks
and
a music
video.
