This
very
well
made
documentary
traces
the
rise
of a
group
of Afrikaans
friends
from
Cape
Town,
who
started
a rock
band
on their
own
terms,
and
in the
process
heading
a cultural
revolution
in South
African
music
as a
whole
(and
Afrikaans
language
in particular).
The
young
filmmakers
chronicling
the
band's
emergence
tackled
the
project
on their
own
steam
across
several
years,
and
tells
the
story
via
interviews
with
the
band
members,
press
and
music
critics,
and
a whole
lot
of music,
live
footage
and
photography
(by
Liam
Lynch).
In a
transitional
South
Africa
the
young
Afrikaans
community
in particular
had
a bit
of an
identity
crisis,
and
this
band
(whose
name
is translated
as “Fuck-off
police
car”)
found
an audience
searching
for
an outlet
and
something
to belong.
