GRIDIRON GANG

With Dwayne Johnson, Xzibit, Kevin Dunn, Leon Rippy

Directed by Phil Joanou

Based on a real case, wrestler turned actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson plays a juvenile corrections officer who realizes that all they’re doing is sending these troubled underage criminals out to continue their downward spiral, with either more prison sentences or death at the end of the tunnel. So, he undertakes to teach them discipline, pride and teamwork by setting up a gridiron football team. It plays like a prescribed “rise to glory with casualties along the way” movie, and hopefully the facts weren’t changed too much for dramatic effect. At first glance you kind of know what to expect, but once you get into it, it is entertaining enough for non-football fans and gridiron enthusiasts alike. The message of hope is a strong one, even when over-milked at times. Johnson once again proves he is way more than a musclehead pounding people in the ring.
Extra features include actual video footage of the real-life characters, deleted scenes, a commentary track and behind the scenes bits.
