LA LINEA (The Line)

With Ray Liotta , Andy Garcia , Esai Morales , Armand Assante , Valerie Cruz , Jordi Vilasuso , Bruce Davison , Danny Trejo

Written by R. Ellis Frazier
Directed by James Cotten

Set in the drug underworld between the Mexican and American border, a powerful crime family's head is on his death bed - when handing the operation over to a non-family member, this is met with great protest from others in the organization. Concurrently the secret service is planning to alter events, while an assassin is also brought in. With a gritty, nasty streak, the unsympathetic characters drive towards a fateful conclusion, while Liotta as the assassin portrays the killer (with a personal dilemma which may affect his work), inadvertently becoming entwined with the life of a struggling (but beautiful) prostitute and her child. While it is not the same kind of movie, tonally La Linea does display similarities with Man On Fire.

I must admit, I was quite distracted throughout most of the movie's scenes with Liotta, as his trademark scarred cheeks seemed to be filled out with collagen (or age?), and just made the once concave scars bulge out...
