MONA LISA

With Bob Hoskins, Cathy Tyson, Michael Caine, Robbie Coltrane, Sammi Davis, Clarke Peters, Kate Hardie, Zoë Nathenson

Written by Neil Jordan & David Leland
Directed by Neil Jordan

Before independent Irish director Neil Jordan really made the world sit up with his movies The Crying Game and Interview With The Vampire, he made some very good and totally engrossing movies like The Company Of Wolves, and this one, Mona Lisa. Set in the London underworld, an ex-con takes the job as chauffeur for one of his mob bosses' top call girls. His growing infatuation with her and subsequent moral awakening in witnessing this seedy life and human disregard in the shadow of money sets him off to take action.
Mona Lisa is a very dark and gritty, but captivating and emotional film peeking into a world many of us will never enter.

Hoskins was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar (1987), but walked off with the BAFTA for his performance as George.
