RED

With Brian Cox, Noel Fisher, Tom Sizemore, Kim Dickens, Kyle Gallner, Robert Englund, Amanda Plummer, Richard Riehle, Marcia Bennett

Written by Stephen Susco (based on the book by Jack Ketchum)
Directed by Trygve Allister Diesen & Lucky McKee

This story looks at justice the raising of children from a very interesting standpoint. In a quiet town an elderly widowed man with a very bitter past (Avery Ludlow) relaxes into his aged years. However he becomes the victim of callous kids. While fishing, they harass him for money and end up killing Red, his beloved dog. On confronting the father of the kid who did the shooting, the man sides with his trash bag of a child, telling Avery to get lost. That is not good enough and he tries the legal route to get justice, but to no avail - until a news reported runs his story... This is the catalyst for a snowball leading to utter disaster.
Red is a very passionate study of relationships (human and animal), the balance between right and wrong, bad parenting, foolish choices and the inevitability of retribution.
A tough drama.
Writer of the original novel Jack Ketchum appears in a cameo as the bar tender (under the name Dallas Mayr).

PS. What are the chances that an actor gets to play in two movies with the same title in the span of a few years? Well, Cox has done so with another movie entitled Red, co-starring Bruce Willis!
