SEINFELD Season 4

Here the collective of Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer really came into their own with some historic sitcom episodes flowing from this unlikely creation by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld. A group of finicky New York friends finding themselves in everyday situations with crazy results and total hilarity has never been this good. This is the season where Jerry and George get their foot in the door to write a sitcom pilot episode, their procrastination and the studio meetings damn funny. It also takes them out of their NY surroundings to Hollywood to find the AWOL Kramer (even tying in a serial killer plot!). Besides unforgettable episodes like The Contest (where they take a no-masturbation bet on who can hold out the longest), you get The Wallet, The Airport, The Opera, The Implant, The Bubble Boy, The Virgin, The Shoes, The Handicap Spot and a few two part episodes like the Pitch / The Ticket and The Pilot (final season episode). Some incredible groundbreaking pieces resulted, especially when it came to adult subjects – its suggestion even funnier than if it had to be uttered (for example the word masturbation never used in The Contest / or Jerry who didn’t catch his new girlfriend’s first name, trying to figure it out (it rhymes with a female body part!). Absolutely side-splitting and capable of repeated viewing. And to think when I first saw the
Seinfeld show I avoided it because I found Jerry whiny and annoying (!). I think it was Kramer that won me over and then everything just fell into place, even the pathetic George. Commentary tracks, documentaries and text info further expand the experience. While TV is for the most part a crock, this is essential television sitcom history.
