SHOOTER

With Mark Wahlberg, Michael Pena, Danny Glover, Kate Mara, Elias Koteas, Ned Beatty, Rhona Mitra

Directed by Antoine Fuqua

The "framed Special Forces soldier" is a well worn theme, but Fuqua gives it a tense and entertaining angle. After a disastrous sniper mission in Africa, Bob Lee Swagger retreats to a quiet life in the mountains – until the government asks for his help to prevent an assassination attempt on the president. He is framed and goes on the run, but gets assistance from an insider and the wife of the fellow soldier who died in the African operation. Soon they uncover a conspiracy which crawls up the political ranks. Wahlberg is well cast, and just like Matt Damon in the Bourne films, a full blown action star would detract from the character drama and political undertones. This doesn’t mean Shooter is low on action as he goes after the culprits.
Additional material includes deleted scenes, a Making-Of featurette, a look at one of the locations and a directors’ commentary track.
