Directed

Lynch
All
reservations
that
this
may
not
live
up to
the
classic
and
hilarious
audio
genius
of "The
D"
was
already
squashed
on seeing
the
theatrical
trailer
to this
gem,
which
merely
consist
of the
scene
where
Jack
and
Kyle
first
meet
on Venice
Beach
- Jack
falling
in on
vocals
to Kyle’s
acoustic
rendition
of a
Bach
tune,
also
finding
their
biggest
fan
Lee.
Priceless!
And
those
who
thought
Liam
Lynch
could
only
make
little
one-man
videos
at home
got
a big
kick
in the
ass
with
this
well
crafted
slice
of rock
and
comedy.
OK,
if you’re
not
sure
what
I’m
talking
about,
Tenacious
D is
the
band
formed
by Jack
Black
and
Kyle
Gass
who
has
this
huge
rock
dream
in their
heads
and
live
it out
through
their
acoustic
guitars.
Liam
Lynch
recorded
that
song
United
States
Of Whatever.
This
movie
has
too
many
hilarious
scenes
to isolate,
as it’s
a masterpiece
from
start
to finish.
Oh yeah,
Jack
is the
pudgy
guy
from
movies
like
Shallow
Hal
and
Nacho
Libre,
and
Kyle
is the
even
pudgier
bald
one.
If you
don’t
like
Jack
and
Kyle’s
sense
of humour
and
its
incorporation
into
their
unique
style
of acoustic
rock,
or know
the
rocky
road
history
theme
running
throughout,
this
may
be less
of a
fulfilling
experience
for
you.
Best
advice
would
be to
pick
up their
album
and
listen
to it
–
you’ll
hose
yourself,
or be
offended.
If it’s
the
former,
you’ll
rush
out
get
this
movie.
They
take
the
piss
out
of everything,
especially
themselves.
This
movie
chronicles
how
JB and
KG meet
and
create
the
two-man
band
Tenacious
D, with
Jack
in awe
of Kyle’s
guitar
playing
and
becoming
his
houseboy
in exchange
to be
trained
in the
way
of Rock.
But,
they
notice
all
the
great
guitar
players
use
a distinctive
pick.
A scruffy
music
shop
guy
(Ben
Stiller)
tells
them
the
secret
of the
Pick
Of Destiny
–
a chip
of the
devil’s
tooth
(Dave
Grohl
of Nirvana
and
Foo
Fighters),
fashioned
into
a guitar
pick,
giving
whoever
plays
with
it super
rock
power.
This
pick
is locked
up in
the
Rock
Museum
so they
go on
a quest
to steal
it in
order
to win
the
local
bar’s
Battle
of the
Bands
night.
This
should’ve
swept
the
board
at all
Best
Musical
or Comedy
categories,
especially
since
it succeeds
so well
in both
of those
categories.
The
special
features
include
deleted
and
extended
scenes,
a Making
Of docy,
music
video
and
its
Making
Of,
studio
footage,
and
an expectedly
animated
commentary
track
from
JB &
KG.
You
can
also
Skip
To A
Song
for
your
favourite
tunes,
be it
the
hilarious
Master
Exploder
or the
asthma
attack
inducer
where
Jack
breaking
into
the
Rock
Museum,
his
actions
narrated
in the
lyrics.
