Jo'burg band No Friends Of Harry was active in the 1980s and 1990s. They released three albums on independent South African labels, with a compilation album being released by EMI in 1999.
No Friends Of Harry became the definitive South African Alternative-Goth-Rock band of the '80s and '90s. The band featured heavily on Barney Simon's Shadow Show on Radio 5, and the band played live consistently.
After breaking up in 1998, in the 2010s they resurrected with a new drummer for various reunion shows.
Classic tracks include "Competition Rules" and their cover of The Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black".
Their debut album "One Came Running" (1987) was followed by "Into The Valley" (1989). They made more commercial inroads with "Fifteen Seconds" (1991) and had a very long gap between that and "Fly By Night" (1999), released shortly after they disbanded.
A best-of collection "The Present Has Passed" was released in 2003.
