Two of the names that really caused quite a stir in the comedy feature film arena recently is Seth Rogan and Judd Apatow. Rogan starred in director Apatow’s Knocked-Up, shooting his career way out there. These two go back together as far as the late-‘90s, and here they co-produced and co-wrote one hell of a fun flick. Other Apatow movies include directing The 40 Year Old Virgin, co-writing You Don’t Mess With The Zohan, and co-producing Superbad. Rogan’s most recent starring role is in Zack & Miri Make A Porno, and voice work in Monsters vs. Aliens.
With this crazy movie they aimed to make a weed / stoner flick combined with big action. A habitual marijuana smoking carefree average-joe accidentally goes on the lam with his rather vacant (but sincere) dope dealer after witnessing a murder. The man on their tail is one of the biggest dope suppliers in the area with connections in the police force and gearing up for a war with his Asian rivals. What you get is a wild ride of hilarious moments coupled with all the action ingredients you’d expect from the likes of a Jerry Bruckheimer production, from car-chases and fights, to shoot-outs, along with this very unlikely and incompetent buddy-team.
This Unrated Special Edition gives you the option to watch either the theatrical version, or the extended cut.
Extensive extras include a director’s commentary track and many featurettes, a making-of and deleted scenes, plus a look at how Green directs some of the scenes and how the actors improvise lines. You also get a music video and extra fake military experiment footage testing joints on subjects.
